Safe Schools DuraTherm Crosswalks

Multiple locations were evaluated, identifying traffic volumes, adjacent walkways to schools, pedestrian volumes, roadway characteristics/traffic control devices, sidewalks/pathways, speed limits and incident history. Creek Valley Elementary in particular, located at the corner of Gleason and Creek Valley Road, has two primary crossings that are stop controlled. With vehicular volume measuring 7,900 per day, coupled with a high crash history at the intersection adjacent to the school, it was determined this location was an ideal candidate for traffic calming measures.  A contractor was sought out to incorporate highly visible, unique crosswalks aimed at child safety and incident reduction around Creek Valley Elementary School.  The “Safe Routes to School Program” committee and other city officials selected Decorative Pavement Marking LLC (DPM) company, to install TrafficScapes DuraTherm® preformed thermoplastic - a specially-designed preformed thermoplastic inlaid into imprinted asphalt and heated in place. As a TrafficScapes Certified Applicator, DPM installed a customized DuraTherm® preformed thermoplastic pattern with 12” white PreMark® preformed thermoplastic transverse lines.
